This ongoing series 'Mirror Portals' is part of a much larger body of work 'Analogue X Digital'. They began during my time as a darkroom technician, experimenting with waste photosensitive paper and everyday household chemicals. Using cooking oil, kitchen cleaner, and light exposure, I created abstract Chemigrams (or Chemilumens)—physical, unpredictable works rooted in process and play.
These prints are then scanned and digitally reworked in stages, exploring texture, symmetry, and colour through slow, intuitive editing. I’ve developed a loose ‘workflow’—first form, then balance, then colour—always allowing for spontaneity and surprise.
Analogue X Digital sits at the intersection of darkroom tradition and digital manipulation, and has become a space for me to question what sustainable making really means. These pieces use discarded materials and expired chemicals I had access to through my job, but they also raise questions: Can art ever be truly eco-friendly? What happens when certain materials are no longer accessible or ethically viable?
These tensions—between process and permanence, access and limitation—are part of what drives this work forward.
